Traineeships are aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 (or up to 24 if you have learning difficulties), who are not in a job but who want to work and who need help in developing work-based skills. An initial assessment process will help determine how the programme can be shaped to your needs, but will include classroom-based learning plus an extended work placement in a vocational area that matches your skills and abilities. Work placements will last a minimum of six weeks up to a maximum of 10 weeks.

Traineeships can last up to six months. If you do not have English and/or maths GCSE at A*-C, you can still apply for a traineeship as you will have the opportunity to gain work-based ualifications in these subjects called functional skills. You can also gain qualifications in ICT, team working, personal planning, and customer service and employability skills.
